Many of these items were left over from the previous referendum. Our commitment to maintaining and improving our facilities means that we cannot continue to defer major infrastructure items.
Every Haddonfield school is due for a fire alarm system upgrade to replace out-of-date equipment that is so old that maintenance service and repair parts will soon not be offered. Upgrading these critical systems amounts to $2 million in the referendum plan.
Replacement of all mercury-containing floors districtwide. This is not a safety risk, but it is a financial burden: HVAC must run constantly to ensure air quality and any repair or replacement would only garner state aid if completed as part of a bond referendum.
Replacement of windows in HMHS A- and C-Wings
A-Wing cupola replacement to prevent water infiltration
Roof replacement at Central and Haddon and roof ladders districtwide
Necessary electrical service upgrades
Parking repairs at Haddon
Partial corridor upgrades districtwide
Stairwell face restoration at Central/Middle
Renovations would enlarge and separate the Middle School and Central nursing suite. The Guidance Office would be relocated to the first floor adjacent to the nurse’s suite.
Other proposed safety-related projects at HMHS:
The current vestibule, which controls visitor access to the school, would be enlarged and altered to include a “transaction/pass-through window” into the main office.
Expanding the current entrance vestibule would allow the installation of a door directly to the office that tracks attendance. This measure would extend the vestibule’s controlled-access function, allowing a student to go into the attendance office before entering the school.
